Standing Side Leg Raise
How to do it
Starting position
- Stand up straight with your feet together.
- Lightly place one hand on a wall or chair.
- Brace your abs and draw your ribs down.
- Point the toes of the lifting leg forward.
Movement
- Slowly lift one leg out to the side.
- Lift only to the point where your outer glutes squeeze.
- Pause briefly at the top and feel the squeeze.
- Resist and lower back to the starting position without losing tension.
Breathing
Exhale as you lift your leg and inhale as you lower it.
Cautions
- If you lean your torso to the opposite side, your leg goes up, but you do not use your glutes.
- If your toes turn upward, the front of your thigh works instead.
- Facing forward is more important than lifting high.
